The showcase project is just as it sounds: a showcase!  Specifically, it is an application written in C#/XNA that contains multiple small demos and games, for two purposes:

  1. To consolidate my skillbase, by not only starting to make a game, but finishing it as well.  That's why the first games are going to be very simple, so that they can be built quickly, then I can move onto the next one.
  2. As a potential center-piece of my portfolio.  Sure, I have gained experience in the games industry, and I have used my skills in many different game projects ... but where's the proof?  Much of my work is scattered about, so it's difficult to point anyone who might be interested in giving me work in the right direction.

  2. Create an EmotionaLLy Intelligent autonomouS Agent (ELLISA) that can interact with this environment.

Game Jams are events where particpants (individually or in groups) create a game in tight time-constraints, such as over a weekend.  Each event will have its own specific rules, but generally the game must be created from scratch, or at least only using publicly available resources along with anything created during the event.  At the start of a game jam, a theme is typically announced that all games should adhere to, but there may also be additional restrictions set for those that want more of a challenge.
